It is the responsibility of practitioners to meet students and families with their own background knowledge.
To support practitioners in building their cultural knowledge and understanding of the communities they served we have created brief profiles of some immigrant communities in the Boston area. Please use these resources as a starting point – this allows you to ask families and students informed questions about their experiences.
Please remember that creole or patois languages are in fact their own languages, despite sharing features with another (typically colonizing) language.
